Woo Screen - Displays jump height and other metrics from WOO 3.0 sensors right after you land
Woo Screen is a companion app for your WOO sports kiteboarding sensor. It displays jump height and other metrics in real time (right after you land). Currently supported metrics are height, hang time, landing G-force, WOO battery level, and several session level statistics (like total session height and max jump). App works with both - phones and Wear OS watches.
NEW: Phone app now speeks out the jump height after landing. You can use an older phone (no Internet connection required), and keep it in a waterproof pouch under wetsuit - it will announce jump height after you land (English only for now)!
Another Phone app feature is that it can create jump notifications that can be seen on non-android watches and activity trackers. Setup for such notification varies by device.
Woo Screen is specifically dedicated to work with WOO Sports sensors.It requires WOO 3.0 sensors to work - app does not display any data by itself. Make sure your Woo is in Big Air mode - Airstyle or other modes are not supported. App also does not work with older versions of WOO sensors as they don't provide real time data.
Occasionally app might show erroneous high jumps reported by WOO and displayed by this app, but filtered out by proprietary WOO algorithms in their official app or on their server. At the moment, there is no workaround for this issue.
Recommended settings on Wear OS watches:
- display > always-on screen - enabled
- gestures > tilt-to-wake - enabled
- gestures > touch-to-wake - enabled
- gestures > wrist gestures - disabled
On watches the app creates 2 icons in watch's launcher - "Woo Screen" and "Woo Screen Settings". After initial setup in "Woo Screen", use "Woo Screen Settings" to change WOO, displayed units, vibration, GPS tracking, gestures, and more.
To correctly display jump metrics, WOO Big Air mode is recommended.
WOO Freestyle and Wake modes work for height, hang time, and G-force, but correctness of the data is not tested or guaranteed though.
WOO Snow mode produces some very high numbers in the height field (like 250m) It probably reports trick points instead of a height. At the moment this mode is not supported by Woo Screen app.
If you test the app at home and don't see any jumps in the app, that is most likely because test throws of Woo are not recognized as jumps. Here are a few pointers.
Until you have some jumps reported by Woo, you won't see any data in the app (except for time).
Simulating a jump on Woo is not easy - it takes many attempts before Woo considers something a jump. You can throw it up in the air - usually takes a few minutes before Woo registers a throw as a jump. Better results achieved by holding Woo in one hand, rotating the whole arm couple times, then slapping the Woo on a knee or another hand. It doesn't work every time either though.
To check that watch didn't miss any jumps, you can open official Woo app and try to download a session. If there is nothing there, then Woo didn't register any jumps, so there was nothing to show on the watch. Try testing it again.
During a session you most likely won't have any problems like this - Woo registers real jumps much better than the fake ones!
App's permissions:
- Location - required to use Bluetooth. Not sure why Bluetooth needs Location permission, but it does - BT doesn't work without it. Also, Location will be used for GPS functionality.
- Storage - optional permission. If granted, the app will create a log file in downloads directory.
